How to (BBC)

  1. I think
  2. My view is that :稍微正式
  3. In my opinion

  1. The fact is, it is disastrous what is happening at the moment.
  2. The fact is, it was a terrible situation.

在有些讨论中,对方没有注意到你的观点,需要设法吸引对方注意力(bring them back to focus on what you’re trying to say):

  1. The point is
  2. You’re missing the point.:
    1. Look, this is nothing to do with you, so leave me alone.

  1. I can assure you that:“我打包票”是一个非常正式的表达(a fairly formal phrase),可以在想要在某事情上说服某人的时候用到它。
    1. I can assure you that we’ll do everything we can to help him.
    2. I can assure you that this is the best quality we have.

I haven’t seen you for ages!

做什么

  • What’ve you been up to?(一个非正式短语,意思是 what have you been doing?)
  • What are you up to?
  • What are you doing around here.

回答:

  • this and that:各种各样的事情
  • Just the usual:

  • This house is gorgeous.

交通

  • How was the traffic?

天气

  • It’s a lovely day, today.

  • Your hair looks great!

  • just a mintue
  • hang on
  • just a second

  • Just a second
  • I really really take exception to that

I take exception to that(我不同意;持异议)暗示了说话人对听到的话极度生气。

  • take that back
  • I think you should take back what you just said

  • I’m sorry. I’m just, I’m not going to let you talk to me like that.

  • Oh, no!
  • Oh, dear!
  • I can’t believe it.
  • Why does this always happen!
  • For goodness sake! (For heaven’s sake!)
  • Bother!
  • Damn!

recipe(食谱)

  • **To begin with **preheat to oven to 220ºC.
  • While the oven’s heating prepare the scones.
  • Put the flour and butter in a bowl and use your fingertips to rub in to the butter, so that the mixture looks like breadcrumbs.
  • When this is done stir in the sugar and salt.
When you have done this
  • Next use a knife to mix in the milk a little bit at a time.
  • When it is all mixed in, use your hands to knead everything together into a soft dough.
  • After this put the dough on to a floured surface and use a rolling pin to roll the dough. The dough needs to be about 2cm thick.
  • Once you’ve done this the a round cutter to cut out circles and put them on a greased baking sheet.
  • Then put them in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes.
  • Finally when they are golden brown take the scones off the baking sheet and leave them to cool or eat them straight away with butter and jam or clotted cream.
